TULSA, Okla. - A woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 66-year-old man traveling in an electric wheelchair, Tulsa police announced.

Authorities said 45-year-old Miranda Chase turned herself in to the Tulsa County Jail on Aug. 4 after investigators spent more than a week gathering evidence linking her to the collision that killed Kenneth Young.

Police first announced the investigation on July 27 after Young died from injuries sustained in the hit-and-run.

According to investigators, the case quickly led them to Broken Arrow, where they determined the suspect likely lived.

On July 28, officers identified a possible residence associated with the suspect vehicle. They located the vehicle concealed inside a garage near the intersection of 81st Street and Aspen Avenue.

Investigators said Chase had already begun repairing damage to the vehicle by the time officers found it.

When questioned, Chase reportedly gave investigators what police described as a convoluted explanation, claiming she became lost while driving home and believed she had only struck a roadside cart.

As the investigation continued, detectives impounded the vehicle and obtained search warrants for both the vehicle's onboard computer system and Chase's cellphone.

Police said evidence recovered through those warrants established probable cause to seek an arrest warrant.

Chase surrendered to Tulsa County authorities and was booked on charges of leaving the scene of a fatality collision, operating a vehicle without a tag and destruction of evidence.

Police emphasized that the arrest is not a conviction and noted the investigation remains active.

Investigators said additional charges could be filed after they present further evidence to the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office.
