NORMAN, Okla. Three people have been arrested and a fourth remains at large after suspects allegedly opened fire on responding officers during the investigation of a burglary in progress early Friday morning, according to the Norman Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 1:26 a.m. on July 31 to a reported burglary in progress in the 1800 block of Hollow Crest Court.

When officers arrived, they observed a suspicious vehicle and several individuals standing in front of the residence. Officers attempted to make contact and ordered the group to stop.

Police said three individuals fled on foot while a fourth person, later identified as the driver of the vehicle, remained at the scene and was taken into custody.

As the three suspects ran from officers, they allegedly fired multiple shots in the direction of responding officers.

No officers returned fire, and no one was struck by the gunfire. Investigators also found no injuries or property damage resulting from the shooting.

Officers immediately established a perimeter around the area and launched a search of nearby woods.

Using drones and other search resources, officers located and arrested two of the fleeing suspects in a wooded area east of the residence.

A fourth suspect remains outstanding.

According to investigators, preliminary evidence indicates the incident may be connected to illegal drug activity.

The Norman Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division is continuing the investigation.

The department thanked the Moore Police Department, the University of Oklahoma Police Department, the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office for assisting with the response and search operation.
