TULSA, Okla. - A 61-year-old man was arrested after Tulsa police officers allegedly discovered a portable methamphetamine lab while taking him into custody on an outstanding felony warrant.

According to the Tulsa Police Department, officers were patrolling near East 3rd Street and Hudson Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. on July 16 when they encountered a man standing in the middle of the roadway.

Officers identified the man as 61-year-old Darrell Riggins and determined he had an active felony warrant for his arrest.

Police said that as officers attempted to arrest him, Riggins threw a bag he had been carrying into the grass. While being taken into custody, he also admitted to having methamphetamine in his pocket.

Officers recovered the discarded bag and found a bottle containing liquid and burned batteries. Based on their training and experience, officers identified the bottle as a suspected "one-pot," or "shake and bake," methamphetamine lab.

The Tulsa Police Department's Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit responded to the scene and safely dismantled the suspected meth lab.

Riggins was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on charges of manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance and possession of methamphetamine.
