GARVIN COUNTY, Okla. — A Garvin County jury has found a man guilty on all charges in connection with a 2024 drunk driving crash that killed a man and a teenage girl and seriously injured two others.
Following a three-day trial that concluded on June 25, William Antonio Miranda was convicted for his role in the Oct. 4, 2024, head-on collision that claimed the lives of 41-year-old Christopher David Pierri and 15-year-old Makaila Hampton.
According to prosecutors, Miranda was driving southbound on State Highway 77 when he crossed the centerline for approximately 400 feet before crashing head-on into Pierri's vehicle.
Pierri was traveling northbound with three juvenile passengers at the time of the collision.
Evidence presented during the trial showed Miranda had been drinking earlier in the day after attending a golf tournament fundraiser before continuing to consume alcohol at a local bar.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit determined Miranda was under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. Testing revealed his blood alcohol concentration was 0.19, more than twice the legal limit.
The jury found Miranda guilty of:
- Two counts of Second-Degree Murder.
- Two counts of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing a Personal Injury Collision Resulting in Great Bodily Injury.
Jurors recommended sentences of 50 years in prison for each of the two murder convictions and 20 years for each of the two great bodily injury convictions.
During closing arguments, prosecutors told jurors the case was about "justice, accountability, and the lives forever changed by the defendant's choices."
District Attorney Jennifer Austin said impaired driving tragedies are entirely preventable.
"Cases involving impaired driving are some of the most devastating cases we see because they are preventable and can forever change the lives of families and communities," Austin said. "We continue to urge everyone to make safe and responsible decisions and to never drive under the influence."
Formal sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 3, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Edwards.
