Tulsa Sets Guinness World Record With 3,596-Car Route 66 Centennial Parade

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa has officially set a new Guinness World Records title after 3,596 classic cars participated in the Route 66 Capital Cruise: Classic Car Centennial Parade, organizers announced.

The record was confirmed on May 30 by official Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric, who announced the final count following the parade.

The event surpassed the previous record by 1,105 vehicles and was held as part of Tulsa's celebration of the upcoming Route 66 Centennial.

According to organizers, drivers from 42 states, Canada and France participated in the parade, drawing international attention to the city and its connection to the historic highway.

Classic cars began departing from Tulsa Expo Square at 8 a.m. and traveled along Route 66 through the city. The final vehicle crossed the adjudication point at Mother Road Market at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Officials estimated that about 100,000 spectators lined 11th Street to watch the parade.

Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols, who served as one of the event's grand marshals, said the parade was the result of nearly a year of planning and collaboration among community partners.

Other grand marshals included Route 66 historian and author Michael Wallis, Vice Grip Garage founder Derek Bieri, Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, and members of the family of Route 66 founder Cyrus Avery.

Along the parade route, organizers established 16 Cruise Party Zones that featured community gatherings and entertainment for attendees.

The final vehicle in the parade was an authentic Route 66-era Oklahoma Highway Patrol car.

Organizers said the record-setting event serves as a centerpiece of Tulsa's Route 66 Centennial celebration and highlights the city's longstanding designation as the Capital of Route 66®.

The new Guinness World Records title places Tulsa at the center of one of the largest automotive celebrations associated with the historic Mother Road as preparations continue for Route 66's 100th anniversary.
